WORKING GROUPS
WORKING GROUP "DANCE IN SCHOOLS"
The working group "Dance in Schools" is currently engaged in developing strategies for integrating the art of dance into the school curriculums. The remit of the working group is to consider the following themes: How to use the body as a learning medium?; How a dance subject in a mainstream school would be planned and programmed?; How to bring closer art of dance to students of all ages?; and How to conduct valid research in the field of dance in schools to justify the importance of growing up with and in the art of dance? We believe that dance instills self-discipline and focus to achieve a personal best. It also encourages communication, creativity and collaboration. Dance is both inclusive of all in the community and a location for personal excellence. Given these benefits, we believe that implementing dance could be an effective solution for fostering empathetic, courageous and creative learners, who will contribute to the development of a prosperous, cohesive and culturally diverse society in the future.

WORKING GROUP "CHOREOGRAPHIC AND PERFORMING PRACTICES IN DANCE FOR YOUNG AUDIENCE"
Invitation to All YDN Members: Join Our First Online Meeting!
We are excited to invite all interested YDN members to the inaugural online meeting of the working group "Choreographic and Performing Practices in Dance for Young Audiences." This Working Group, initiated and coordinated by YDN Core Group member Sanja Frühwald, will provide a space for sharing your own artistic practices, learning from fellow members, and exploring opportunities for practical exchange.
This group will meet online (on Zoom platform) every two months in an open space format, fostering ongoing dialogue and collaboration. Additionally, the group will be seeking opportunities for in-person exchanges whenever and wherever possible. The first such opportunity will be the next edition of "Good Morning Ideas,”* set to take place during the Assitej Artistic Gathering in Marseille, France, in March 2025.
*GMI program typically involves morning sessions during various ASSITEJ events, aimed at energizing participants with a gentle somatic or playful waking up practice that includes breathing, stretching, and movement. The sessions are designed to prepare attendees for a day of professional activities and are open to all levels of experience, including those new to dance. Participants are encouraged to get to know each other through movement, making it a welcoming space for both individuals and groups. In different contexts it was open for YDN members to pair up in sharing own daily morning practices and creating and co-teaching session to interested participants.

WORKING GROUP "WRITING ABOUT DANCE AND CHOREOGRAPHY FOR YOUNG AUDIENCE"
This working group is focused on writing about dance and choreography for young audiences and came from the need to empower the critical, written discourse, encourage the artists/ programers/ critics/ producers on the field to write about their practices and explore written form as a tool of exchange. WORKING GROUP "HOW TO PROGRAM DANCE FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE"
At the ASSITEJ World Congress in Havana, YDN introduced the theme: "How to Program Dance for Children and Young People."
The key points we shared with participants included:
-How do you perceive the specificity of programming dance?
-What different formats of events do you imagine in a dance festival / season / program?
-How to communicate dance programs?
-What are the chances and challenges in programming dance in interdisciplinary events?
-How to think about the dramaturgy of the dance festival / event / season could support the programing
In the limited time we had, we began discussing key aspects of programming dance for children and young people. Together, we identified some essential keywords to guide our ongoing work:
CONTEXT - BUILDING COMMUNITY - INTERDISCIPLINARY -VISIBILITY - FORMATS (AGE-STYLE-VENUE) - DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES OF PROGRAMMING - DIFFERENT KINDS OF DRAMATURGIES
In the working group we aim to keep sharing ideas and concrete steps for the future.
We are convinced that talking and acting with shared ideas about dance programming is very important at this difficult time in the world.
